Above, Boing Boing Video and Offworld’s live streaming channel for 2009 Game Developers Conference.

The entire Boing Boing Video crew is in San Francisco this week, along with a number of the bloggers from Offworld, BB Gadgets, and Boing Boing, to cover the 2009 Game Developers Conference. And this time, for the first time ever, we’re doing it with live video broadcasts on our new Ustream channel. Tune in for conversations in our BBV@GDC studio with special guests from the gaming biz, Tuesday through Friday.

Chat room after the jump.

Guest lineup for Friday March 27, 2009, the final day of GDC:

* Keita Takahashi, creator of Katamari Damacy, talking about his most recent game, Noby Noby Boy (note: previously recorded on-site at GDC)
* A planned interview nearby with Hideo Kojima, CEO of Konami. He’s the creator of the recently released Metal Gear Solid Touch game for the iPod touch and iPhone (it’s currently available on the Apple App Store). He’s doing a talk at 3pm at the San Francisco Apple Store, if you’re in SF, you should try to go!
* In-studio visit by game developer and researcher Jane McGonigal of Institute for the Future, whose amazing GDC talk Cory blogged about here.
* Peter Kirn of Create Digital Music, talking about music and video games, and hopefully demoing some music-making gizmos!
* Vlad Micu, “Videogame Visionary” from the Netherlands
* Alice Taylor, game researcher, blogger, and developer, of Wonderland and Channel 4
* Tracy Fullerton of the USC Electronic Arts Game Innovation Lab

Chat room after the jump, or you can hop directly to our Ustream page to view chat + video stream side by side.

Below, a little segment we shot en route to GDC, aboard a Virgin America flight — because if you’re flying to a gamer con, you really do need to be able to play DOOM on the way, on the inflight entertainment system. In this episode, we climb way inside the guts of the plane, beneath the seats, and actually get our hands on the little servers where they store the DOOM cheat codes. Download the MP4 here. Our YouTube channel is here, subscribe to our daily video podcast on iTunes here. Get Twitter updates every time there’s a new ep by following @boingboingvideo.

(Boing Boing Video Crew and hosts this week: Xeni Jardin, Wesly Varghese, Derek Bledsoe; Jolon Bankey and Daniela Calderon, also of Mysterious Development; Joel Johnson of Boing Boing Gadgets. Special thanks to Boing Boing video’s hosting partner Episodic, to Ustream TV, and to Wayneco Heavy Industries, and to the kind folks at Virgin America who let us goof off on their planes.)

    Wow, very interesting.

And yet – disappointing to see Doom “chugging” at a very low framerate.

    Yes – it’s a classic game.
Yes – I’d love to play it “multiplayer” on a plane.
Yes – it’s great to see Virgin going way beyond slow-moving
flash ripoffs of popular games. (other airlines take note)

But sadly – it won’t be fun to play Doom at such a low framerate for very long…
Very soon, your eyes would hurt.

Perhaps Virgin needs to stick to 2D “low processing” games for a little longer,
until they have enough ‘grunt’ for 2.5D Doom-esque gaming.

    Low framerate? You think so?

  3. Agies says:

Considering that the camera is probably not synched up with the refresh rate of the seat-back monitor that looks like an accurate framerate for Doom. It wasn’t exactly known fo silky smoothe animation.

  4. Ratdog says:

Hey, I know this is irrelevant, but you wouldn’t answer if it was on an older post:

What is the name of that funky tune the Death Knight gnome is dancing to?
